Which vitamins for hair? A simple guide
Hair is made continuously by the follicle, which needs a regular supply of nutrients. Here are the ones that matter most.
The essential nutrients
- Biotin (vitamin B7): contributes to the maintenance of normal hair. Found in eggs, nuts and pulses.
- Zinc: contributes to the maintenance of normal hair. Found in seafood, meat and pumpkin seeds.
- Selenium: contributes to the maintenance of normal hair. Brazil nuts are an excellent source.
- Vitamin C: contributes to normal collagen formation and increases iron absorption.
- Vitamin E: contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
- Sulphur amino acids (cysteine, methionine): building blocks of keratin, the protein that makes up hair.
Food or supplement?
A varied diet remains the foundation. A supplement is useful when needs increase (pregnancy, stress, age) or when your diet is not enough. Choose a formula suited to your profile rather than a “one size fits all” product.
How long?
The hair cycle is long: allow at least three months of regular use before judging the result.
